The Great Banquet In The Kingdom of God 하나님 나라에서의 큰 잔치 Luke 14:1-24 Key Verse: 14:23 "Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.’" 요절 누가복음 14:23 “주인이 종에게 이르되 길과 산울타리 가로 나가서 사람을 강권하여 데려다가 내 집을 채우라” Today’s passage teaches us about the kingdom of God. God invites us to come to the great banquet in his kingdom. He wants us to come and make his banquet full of his people. That is God’s desire for us, for his beloved children. Let us pray that we may hear God’s invitation and decide to follow the path to enter the kingdom of God. 오늘 말씀은 우리에게 하나님 나라에 대해 가르쳐줍니다. 하나님은 우리에게 하나님 나라의 잔치에 오라고 초청하십니다. 그분은 우리가 와서 그분의 잔치를 사람들로 가득 채우길 원하십니다. 이것이 그의 사랑받는 자녀들인 우리를 위한 하나님의 소원입니다. 우리가 하나님의 초청의 음성을 듣고 하나님 나라로 들어가는 길을 따르기로 결정할 수 있기를 기도합니다. First, Jesus completes the law by healing the sick on Sabbath. (1-6) 첫째, 예수님은 안식일에 병든 자를 고치심으로 율법을 완성하셨습니다. (1-6) Let us read verse 1 together. “One Sabbath, when Jesus went to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee, he was being carefully watched.” Jesus went to eat in the house of a Pharisee. We can assume that Jesus was invited by the Pharisee to join the party. It looks as if the Pharisees were hospitable towards Jesus when we see that Jesus was invited. However the Bible tells us that they were watching Jesus carefully. Maybe this invitation was a trap to put Jesus into trouble. Whether he was the part of the trap or not, in front of Jesus, there was a man who had been suffering from dropsy. In the past Jesus was accused multiple times by the Pharisees and the teachers of the law for healing the sick on the Sabbaths. Look at verse 3. “Jesus asked the Pharisees and experts in the law, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?” Jesus answers to his own question by the very next action he took. Jesus healed the man with dropsy and sent him away. So, what does this make Jesus as? A law breaker? Here we realize that Jesus regarded acts of mercy and compassion on the Sabbath as acceptable and pleasing worship to God, in spite of what others thought or taught. Paul wrote in Romans 13:8, "he who loves his fellow man has fulfilled the law." Jesus’ love for the sinners does not violate the law, but fulfills and completes the law. Jesus said in verse 5, "If one of you has a son or an ox that falls into a well on the Sabbath day, will you not immediately pull him out?" “And they had nothing to say.” In their stubborn pride and indifference, they had no mercy, compassion or love in their hearts. They only thought about what they would gain and lose and lived to satisfy their needs and wants. However Jesus was full of mercy, compassion and love. We must pray to be like Jesus who fulfills the law by the power of true love. Let us pray to have our hearts broken and softened to cover and embrace others. Let us pray that we could start loving our friends, neighbors, and family member because that is the true way to please our God. Second, the humble will be exalted. (7-11) 둘째, 겸손한 자는 높아지리라 (7-11) After Jesus made his bold message of his love, he noticed that the guests at the dinner were choosing respected places around the table. To this, Jesus told them a parable from verses 8 to 10. “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this man your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests.” Then verse 11 kindly sums up the meaning of the whole parable. “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” 예수님이 사랑에 관한 담대한 말씀을 선포하신 후에 식사 자리의 손님들이 식탁 주변에 존경받는 자리를 선택하고 있는 모습에 주목하셨습니다. 이에 대해 예수님은 그들에게 8절부터 10절까지 한 비유를 말씀하셨습니다. “네가 누구에게나 혼인 잔치에 청함을 받았을 때에 높은 자리에 앉지 말라 그렇지 않으면 너보다 더 높은 사람이 청함을 받은 경우에 너와 그를 청한 자가 와서 너더러 이 사람에게 자리를 내주라 하리니 그 때에 네가 부끄러워 끝자리로 가게 되리라 청함을 받았을 때에 차라리 가서 끝자리에 앉으라 그러면 너를 청한 자가 와서 너더러 벗이여 올라 앉으라 하리니 그 때에야 함께 앉은 모든 사람 앞에서 영광이 있으리라” 그리고 11절은 친절하게도 전체 비유의 의미를 요약해 줍니다. “무릇 자기를 높이는 자는 낮아지고 자기를 낮추는 자는 높아지리라” We human beings are often hungry for honor and recognition from others. We even become willing to sacrifice ourselves if we can be recognized and noticed by the people we love. However Jesus is telling us to be humble! We must understand that the recognition and popularity from people are nothing but something to be faded the next day. What we really have to do is to seek God’s recognition by living our lives with humble and faithful attitude. Jesus did not just teach about humbling oneself. He himself becomes the greatest example of humbling oneself. Philippians 2:5-8 describes it: "Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death--even death on a cross!" Jesus' extreme humbleness was followed by the greatest exaltation: "Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." (Php 2:9-11) Let us pray to be recognized by God. 우리 인간들은 종종 존경과 다른 사람들로부터의 인정에 목마릅니다. 우리는 심지어 우리가 사랑하는 사람들로부터 우리가 주목을 받을 수 있다면 우리 자신을 기꺼이 희생하려고까지 할 수 있습니다. 그러나 예수님은 우리에게 겸손하라고 말씀하십니다. 우리는 사람들로부터 인정과 인기가 아무 것도 아니며 다음 날이면 사라질 것이라는 점을 반드시 이해해야 합니다. 우리가 진정 해야할 것은 겸손하고 신실한 태도로 살아감으로서 하나님의 인정을 구하는 것입니다. 예수님은 자신을 낮추는 것에 대해서 단지 가르치기만 하신 것은 아니었습니다. 예수님 자신이 자신을 낮추는 것의 가장 위대한 본보기가 되셨습니다. 빌립보서 2장 5절부터 8절까지는 다음과 같이 묘사합니다. “너희 안에 이 마음을 품으라 곧 그리스도 예수의 마음이니 그는 근본 하나님의 본체시나 하나님과 동등됨을 취할 것으로 여기지 아니하시고 오히려 자기를 비워 종의 형체를 가지사 사람들과 같이 되셨고 사람의 모양으로 나타나사 자기를 낮추시고 죽기까지 복종하셨으니 곧 십자가에 죽으심이라” 예수님의 지극한 겸손함 뒤에는 가장 큰 높이심이 따라왔습니다. “이러므로 하나님이 그를 지극히 높여 모든 이름 위에 뛰어난 이름을 주사 하늘에 있는 자들과 땅에 있는 자들과 땅 아래에 있는 자들로 모든 무릎을 예수의 이름에 꿇게 하시고 모든 입으로 예수 그리스도를 주라 시인하여 하나님 아버지께 영광을 돌리게 하셨느니라” (빌 2:9-11) 하나님께 인정 받을 수 있도록 기도합시다. Third, help others without expecting to be repaid. (12-14) 셋째, 보상을 받을 것을 기대하지 말고 다른 사람들을 도우라 Let us read verses 12 and 13. “Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind.” Jesus also told them not to invite their friends, rich neighbors, but invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.” Through this Jesus tells us that the true serving and helping should be done without expecting to be repaid. So many times when we do somebody a favor, right away we start thinking in our minds, ‘what is this person gonna do for me?’ When we give somebody a birthday present, we start expecting right away to be repaid on our birthdays. Jesus tells us to help and serve people without expecting any worldly benefit in return. But why? Why should we choose to do a losing business? Because God sees and God himself will repay. God knows our sacrifices and our tears. He is keeping a record of it and he will repay it. There are numerous people around us who need our help. Let us willingly and joyfully help one another with pure motive and desires. Let us pray that our acts of love and care may be credited in God. Dear heavenly father, purify our hearts from worldly benefit-seeking. Help us to seek your reward and repayment at the resurrection of the righteous. Amen. 12,13절을 읽겠습니다. “또 자기를 청한 자에게 이르시되 네가 점심이나 저녁이나 베풀거든 벗이나 형제나 친척이나 부한 이웃을 청하지 말라 두렵건대 그 사람들이 너를 도로 청하여 네게 갚음이 될까 하노라 잔치를 베풀거든 차라리 가난한 자들과 몸 불편한 자들과 저는 자들과 맹인들을 청하라” 예수님은 또한 그들에게 친구들, 부유한 이웃들을 초대하지 말고 가난한 사람들, 몸이 불편한 사람들, 절름발이, 맹인들을 초대하라고 말씀하십니다. 이것을 통해 예수님은 우리에게 진정한 섬김과 도움은 보상 받을 것을 기대하지 않고 이루어져야만 한다는 것을 말씀하십니다. 많은 경우에 우리가 누군가에게 호의를 베풀 때, 그 즉시 우리는 우리 마음 속에서 ‘이 사람이 나를 위해 무엇을 해 줄 수 있을까?’를 생각하기 시작합니다. 우리가 누군가에게 생일 선물을 줄 때 우리는 그 즉시 내 생일에 돌려 받을 것에 대해 기대하기 시작합니다. 예수님은 우리에게 이 세상에서 받을 어떤 혜택을 되돌려 받을 것을 기대하지 말고 사람들을 돕고 섬기라고 말씀하십니다. 왜 그럴까요? 우리는 왜 손해 보는 장사를 선택해야만 합니까? 왜냐하면 하나님이 보고 계시고 하나님 자신이 보상해 주실 것이기 때문입니다. 하나님은 우리의 희생과 눈물을 아십니다. 그분은 그것들을 다 기록으로 보관 중이시고 보상해 주실 것입니다. 우리 도움을 필요로 하는 수많은 사람들이 우리 주위에 있습니다. 우리가 순수한 동기와 소원을 가지고 서로를 자발적으로 즐거움으로 도울 수 있기 바랍니다. 우리의 사랑과 돌봄의 행위가 하나님께 쌓일 수 있기를 기도합니다. 하나님 아버지! 우리 마음을 세속적인 이익 추구로부터 정결해 주옵소서. 우리가 의인들의 부활의 날에 하나님의 보상과 갚으심을 추구하게 도와 주소서. 아멘. Fourth, the great banquet in the Kingdom of God. (15-24) 넷째, 하나님 나라에서의 큰 잔치 From verse 15, finally Jesus tells the parable of the great banquet. At this time Jesus was still at the Pharisee's dinner party, making many people uncomfortable. However Jesus’ lesson did not end there. In fact, he now tells them the most important lesson about the heart and hope of God. The parable of the great banquet goes like this. "A certain man was preparing a huge banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, 'Come, for everything is now ready.' But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, 'I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me.' [Who buys a field without seeing it first? Bad excuse.] Another said, 'I have just bought five yoke of oxen, and I'm on my way to try them out. Please excuse me.' [That would be like buying a car without trying it out first. Another bad excuse.] Still another said, 'I just got married, so I can't come.' [The honeymoon and house moving made him too busy.] The servant came back and reported this to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.' 'Sir,' the servant said, 'what you ordered has been done, but there is still room.' Then the master told his servant, 'Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full. I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of my banquet” 15절부터 예수님은 마침내 큰 잔치의 비유를 말씀하십니다. 이 당시에 예수님은 많은 사람들을 불편하게 하시면서 여전히 바리새인의 식사 초대 가운데 있었습니다. 그러나 예수님의 교훈은 거기에서 끝나지 않았습니다. 사실 예수님은 지금 그들에게 하나님의 마음과 소망에 관한 가장 중요한 교훈을 말씀하고 계십니다. 큰 잔치의 비유는 다음과 같습니다. “어떤 사람이 큰 잔치를 베풀고, 많은 사람을 초대하였습니다. 잔치 시간이 되어, 그는 자기 종을 보내서 '준비가 다 되었으니, 오십시오' 하고 초대받은 사람들에게 말하게 하였습니다. 그런데 그들은 모두 하나같이 핑계를 대기 시작하였습니다. 한 사람은 그에게 말하기를 '내가 밭을 샀는데, 가서 보아야 하겠소. 부디 양해해 주기 바라오' 하였습니다. (신혼여행과 이사로 그는 무척 바쁜 모양입니다.) 그렇게 한 뒤에 종이 말하였습니다. '주인님, 분부대로 하였습니다만, 아직도 자리가 남아 있습니다.' 주인이 종에게 말하였습니다. '큰길과 산울타리로 나가서, 사람들을 억지로라도 데려다가, 내 집을 채워라. 내가 너희에게 말한다. 초대를 받은 사람들 가운데서는, 아무도 나의 잔치를 맛보지 못할 것이다.'” Clearly, Jesus told this parable to express his urgent prayer and warning to his own people, even those at the dinner party. They were very much privileged, chosen guests to God's great banquet. They received the invitation through the prophets since long time ago. Now the time had come. Jesus came to give the final invite since everything was now ready. The kingdom of God had come in Jesus Christ. But how did they react to this? They made excuses one after another. How could they make excuses? For one thing, they were too engrossed and comfortable in their own worldly lives: their own properties, possessions, careers and marriages. Work, business, and family were more important to them. 분명히 예수님은 이 비유를 자신의 긴급한 기도이자 식사 자리에 있던 사람들까지도 포함된 자기 자신의 백성들에게 대한 경고를 표현하시고자 말씀하셨습니다. 그들은 하나님의 큰 잔치에 큰 특혜를 부여 받은 선택된 하객들이었습니다. 그들은 오래 전부터 선지자들을 통해 초대를 받았습니다. 이제 때가 되었습니다. 예수님은 모든 것이 준비 되었기 때문에 마지막 초대장을 주시려고 오셨습니다. 하나님의 나라는 예수 그리스도 안에서 도래하였습니다. 그러나 그들은 이에 대해 어떻게 반응했습니다. 그들은 꼬리에 꼬리를 무는 핑계를 대었습니다. 그들이 어떻게 핑계를 대었습니까? 그들은 그들 자신의 세속적인 삶, 그들 자신의 재산, 소유, 경력과 결혼 등에 너무나 몰입해 있었고 거기에 만족하고 있었습니다. 일과 사업과 가족이 그들에게 더 중요했습니다. But the banquet was not going to be canceled. Rather, other people will be invited to fill the seats. God will invite those who accept the invitation thankfully, like the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame. They are needy people who met difficulties, sufferings and unfortunate circumstances in life, but they will accept the great banquet invitation with thankfulness. The invitation is given freely to them as well. God's banquet hall is very big and his house has many rooms. So the invitations went out beyond the borders, into the world. God really wants to have a full banquet hall in his kingdom with all kinds of thankful people, celebrating together. This is God's heart. This is God's hope. This is God's love. Have you accepted his invitation to his great banquet? Or are you still in dilemma, and can’t decide what to do? Let us choose to thankfully and joyfully accept the invitation, which we never deserved. In your life you probably were invited to many big and small events. But this invitation is something that you don’t want to miss. Let us pray sincerely that God may help us overcome our human desires and dreams, but use every effort fulfill the vision and the hope of God. Amen. The heavenly banquet starts here. Through English worship and praise, and listening to the word of God together, we have the heavenly banquet right here. Let us invite ourselves in, and invite others in so that we can all taste the great banquet of the kingdom of God. Amen. 그러나 잔치가 취소되지 않았습니다. 오히려 다른 사람들이 자리를 채우기 위해 초대되었습니다. 하나님은 가난한 자, 몸이 불편한 자, 맹인, 절름발이와 같이 초대를 감사로 받는 사람들을 초대하려고 하셨습니다. 그들은 어려움과 고난과 삶에서 불행한 환경 가운데 있는 갈급한 사람들이며, 큰 잔치의 초대를 감사함으로 영접할 것입니다. 그 초대는 또한 그들에게 공짜로 주어진 것입니다. 하나님의 연회장은 아주 크고 그 집은 많은 방들이 있습니다. 그래서 초대는 국경을 넘어 세상 속으로 들어 갔습니다. 하나님은 서로를 축하하는 모든 종류의 감사하는 사람들로 연회장을 가득 채우길 원하였습니다. 이것이 하나님의 마음입니다. 이것이 하나님의 소망입니다. 이것이 하나님의 사랑입니다. 하나님의 큰 잔치에 초대에 응하셨습니까? 아니면 여전히 고민 중에 있고 어떻게 할지 결정하지 못하셨습니까? 자격 없는 여러분에게 임한 이 초대에 기쁨과 감사함으로 응하시길 바랍니다. 여러분의 삶 속에서 여러분은 아마도 크고 작은 이벤트에 초대를 받았을 것입니다. 그러나 이 초대는 여러분이 놓치기를 원하지 않는 것입니다. 하나님이 우리를 도우셔서 우리의 인간적인 소원이나 꿈을 극복하고 하나님의 비전과 소망을 만족시켜 드리는데 모든 노력을 기울이시기를 간절히 기도합니다. 하늘의 잔치는 여기에서부터 시작합니다. 영어 예배와 찬양 그리고 하나님의 말씀을 함께 듣는 것을 통해서 우리는 바로 여기에서 하늘의 잔치를 벌입니다. 우리 자신을 그리고 다른 사람들도 여기에 초대해서 우리가 하나님의 나라의 큰 잔치를 맛볼 수 있기를 기도합니다. In today’s passage we learned that Jesus wants us to be humble and thankful because he will exalt us and share his heavenly banquet with us. It will cost us our loves, hopes, and dreams, but it will be worth it all. May God help us to humbly and thankfully accept his invitation to his great banquet. Amen. 오늘 말씀에서 우리는 예수님이 우리를 높일 것이고 우리와 하늘 잔치를 함께 나눌 것이기 때문에 우리가 겸손하고 감사하는 사람이 되길 원하신다는 것을 배웠습니다. 사랑과 소망 그리고 꿈은 우리에게 대가를 요구할 것입니다. 그러나 그것은 그럴만한 가치가 있습니다. 하나님께서 우리가 하나님의 큰 잔치에 초대를 겸손하게 감사함으로 영접할 수 있도록 도와 주시길 기도합니다. 아멘. |
