God chose Dr. Abraham T. Kim as the new UBF General Director
Dr. Abraham Taein Kim (63) graduated from the Korea Military Academy in 1971 and was a professor in civil engineering at his alma mater until he retired from the Koran Army in 1996. During his graduate study at Oregon State University, he served American campus mission and raised Pastor Ron Ward and Dr. Greg Edens. In 1987, he started Dongkyo UBF Chapter in Seoul, Korea from which Sinsoo, Hwarang, and Myungji Chapters were successively pioneered. During his ministry, he was a member of the Korea UBF Board. In 1995, he came to the U.S second time with his family and ministered at Milwaukee, Wisconsin for nine and half years. In 2005, he moved to Minnesota to pioneer the University of Minnesota with five other coworkers¡¯ families. He has served the North American UBF ministries as a Senior Staff member and Discipleship Training Committee chair. With his wife Sarah Sookhee, he has three children—Sarah Jr., Rebekah, and Abraham Jr.

Dr. Abraham T. Kim's graceful acceptance address:
I thank and praise God who has used and blessed UBF for the past 50 years. I praise and worship God my Savior who called me, an unworthy sinner, to live as UBF shepherd.

It is a great honor for me to serve the body of UBF world-wide. As I was pondering on this overwhelming calling, the Lord reminded me of my life key verse, ¡°Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go¡± (Jos 1:7). I want to serve this calling by obeying the Lord¡¯s commands. Please pray for me to listen to the Lord¡¯s voice every day and serve His will.

God gave us beautiful spiritual heritage through Late Dr. Samuel Lee and Mother Sarah Barry and raised Korean senior staff and pioneer missionaries. God has blessed UBF to grow to be a world campus mission organization through their dedication and raised 400 staff, 1,800 missionaries to 92 nations, and 260 native leaders¡¯ house churches. God called us to be UBF family members and world campus pioneers. I¡¯d like to express my deep love for each of you and I honor you for your beautiful life of mission.

Before us, there are 140 nations that are waiting for UBF outreach. Among the 92 nations that have UBF ministries, 58 nations have only one UBF chapter. In North America and Germany where 55% of missionaries are working, about 20% of major universities have UBF ministries. There are vast mission fields we should advance to carry out the Lord¡¯s Great Commission. Let¡¯s pray that God may use UBF to bring his kingdom to all of the major campuses of the world including China, North Korea, and the Muslim world for the coming 50 years.

We have visions as well as challenges. Apostle Paul summarized Christianity as this; ¡°And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love¡± (1Co 13:13). For the past 50 years, God has done great things among us when we had faith in God. God will do greater things through us when we have faith in God. Our hope is in God. The prophets proclaimed God¡¯s words of hope even when they saw no immediate fruit. We can serve our time with the hope of God. There is nothing stronger than love. There is nothing more beautiful than love. May God fill us with his love to love and look after one another as we love the young people we serve. May God bless us to build a community of love in each city, nation, and continent. The Lord said, ¡°You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden¡± (Mt 5:14).  May God bless UBF to be a city on a hill for the peoples of the world.

I¡¯d like to thank Mother Sarah Barry and honor her service as General Director after our loss of Dr. Samuel Lee. She closely worked with senior missionaries and native leaders around the world and promoted God¡¯s work by visiting everywhere even when she hurt her legs. Her prayers are a lamp of God. May the Lord give her good health so that she may be with us for a longtime. I¡¯d like to thank M. Grace A. Lee for her prayers and love for all staff, missionaries and native leaders around the world.  Her letter-writing ministry has made us always feel like a family in Christ. May the Lord give her the Holy Spirit and good health continuously. I¡¯d like to also thank Dr. John Jun and honor his hard work as General Director for the past five and a half years. He served the continental directors with all his heart and has brought growth in UBF ministry world-wide. He extended UBF partnership with world Christian communities by reinstating our membership in the National Association of Evangelicals, and obtaining membership in the Lausanne Conference, the Cross Global Link, the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, and the Global Inter-Missions Network. He has also made great effort in promoting and protecting our ministry online.

Let¡¯s keep faith, hope, and love in our hearts and work together. Let¡¯s give thanks and praises to God who has done great things for the past 50 years and will do greater things for the coming 50 years. Please pray for me to be led by the word of God and the Holy Spirit. May the Lord bless Korea UBF to raise Bible teachers and missionaries continually.
