¡°BEAR THE LIKENESS OF JESUS¡± ¡°And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.¡± 1Cor. 15:49 It is hard and seems impossible for any human being to put his hope in the resurrection of Jesus and be like Him, simply because no one has resurrected except Jesus Christ. I have to admit that even after writing and rewriting this message for 7 consecutive years, I found myself struggling to keep in mind the picture of Jesus¡¯ glorious, majestic, heavenly image. In reality there are no enough words to describe the glory of resurrection. It is truly amazing, fabulous, fascinating, awesome, eternal the glory of Jesus that will be revealed in the feature [Ro 8:18] Throughout the 3 day Easter Bible Conference I am happy to know Jesus¡¯ likeness through 3 important ways: 1. Jesus¡¯ shepherd heart. While hanging on the cross Jesus prayed, ¡°Father, forgive them.¡± This was the Daily Bread message on the first day of the conference. It revealed Jesus¡¯ compassionate heart for all sinners. It revealed Jesus¡¯ love. His humble obedience to the will of the father clearly shows his faith and love for all of us. To receive the grace of forgiveness is very important. Therefore repentance and obedience are ways of expression on how we can show our love for Jesus. We need to thank Him always. The two Karens are beautiful and talented Nursing graduates from Fatima University. They had in mind what to do during vacation but they decided to attend the 3 day conference without being bored and isolated. Like the Samaritan woman in the bible I pray that they may come to know the love of Jesus and be raised as prayer mothers. 2. He is a man of prayer. During the conference we all struggle to wake up early in the morning to pray overcoming our tired bodies. During this time we can somehow imitate Jesus¡¯ way of life. His prayerful life enabled his disciples to grow to be humble obedient servants of God. Even while hanging on the cross his prayer touched the hearts of many including the Roman Soldier. The conference¡¯ success rested on the faithful prayer support of various coworkers here and abroad. Anam chapter sent a delegate in the person of Misn. John Bach Lee who is a choir conductor. According to Misn. John Bach Lee they were preparing delegates of around 12. It is good to have just one. I am sorry that our manger ministry cannot accommodate them all. Also one family from Ipswich U.K. UBF came to join the Easter Bible Conference. They are the Sumibcay¡¯s family. It was like a grand reunion after more than 5 years of staying in the mission field. Their visit not only brought laughter but joy as well especially every time we remember their lives of faith and mission. We encouraged one another to move forward as we pioneer the new horizon in the mission field. All in all we have 55 attendance. We have more female coworkers than male. We have seven prayer mother candidates. 3. Discipleship according to the CBF musical play. The kids are talking who they want to be when they get big. One of them said that he wanted to be a race car driver and other a baseball player still another wanted to be like her father. The father replied ¡°And nothing would make me happier if you would be like Jesus.¡± Who you wanna be when you grow up? In the Philippines, Power Ranger SPD is popular among children. But for me ¡°SPD¡± stands for shepherd heart, prayer and discipleship. Discipleship is Jesus unique life style. He raised up 12 disciples who can be future spiritual leaders and who will go out to the ends of the earth. The conference was purposely a mixture of young disciple fellowship hoping to evangelize nearby universities and colleges around UP Manila area. Shep. Sarah Miranda is a graduate of U.P. Pharmacology Dept. and now a full pledged pharmacist of Philippine General Hospital. She has 4 UP sheep and 2 from Emilio Aguinaldo College. She came on the conference all the way from her work [night duty]. She is willing and ready to be like one of the disciples of Jesus. Mark 3:14-15 says, ¡±He appointed twelve—designating them apostles—that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.¡± This is God¡¯s message to me through his servant Misn. Mark Yang. He had a one point message about discipleship. Disciples are learners of Jesus. They are like students. They have huge propensity to learn. They have a great learning mind. Jesus¡¯ disciples are hardworking, obedient and willing to grow spiritually, meaning they need to grow in the likeness of Jesus. Likeness is the same as similar or resemblance. ¡°And are, being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.¡± (2 Cor 3:18) Jesus himself is the glory of God in fullness of His radiance. (Heb 1:2-3) His eternal and unfading glory which he had with the Father before the world began (John 17:5). Someday we will be like him. This is the glory we are all looking for. Americans thought that MJ is their glory (Michael Jordan or Michael Jackson) In the Philippines Manny ¡°Pacman¡± Pacquiao is the reigning WBC featherweight champion but he is not our glory. Even to parents, their children become their glory. But our true glory is Jesus Christ and to be conformed in His likeness (Rom 8:29). Jesus is the best discipleship maker. It is inevitable for the disciples of Jesus to have a common life together. This can be explained by the word, ¡°So that they might be with him.¡± Actually there are many ways to raise disciples and there is no hard and fast rule. Jesus taught his disciples to obey the word of God with all their hearts, with all their minds and strengths. Memorization and monodrama is not new to UBF. The CBF learned it and took turn to prepare their own little way of expressing themselves through simple gestures and actions. It is hard to understand the mind of the children but they themselves are willing to bear the likeness of Jesus. to be like little Jesus, humble and obedient. I was impressed by the humbleness of Misn. John Bach Lee of Anam chapter. Although he is good looking, good in English conversation, a talented musician and intelligent, nevertheless his love for Jesus compelled him to visit our manger ministry. Traveling to a mosquito infested area is not easy and the start of summer has just begun wherein our temperature even reached up to 35¡¯C. Sorry that I was not able to serve him in the best possible way. Honestly, we are so sorry. His coming reminded me of King David. He could sleep any where. I am ashamed to treat him in such a humble way. The conference could not end without writing their testimonies for at least 2 occasions and they have to recite the Gospel Key Verses and Hebrew 11. Even though they had a hard time memorizing before the conference but they were spiritually rewarded with the holy and delicious word of God in their hearts. I could not ignore that God himself interceded for us and answered our prayers. His invisible presence cannot be over looked. From the start up to the last we were all blessed by the precious word of God, thereby bearing somehow the likeness of Jesus. ONE WORD: BEAR THE LIKENESS OF JESUS |
