GENESIS Chapter 33~35 
 Jacob VI. Jacob's Return to Bethel 

얍복강에서 이스라엘로 변화된 야곱은 하나님과의 관계가 회복된 이후 
20년간 괴롭혀왔던 형 에서와의 관계성도 해결되게 됩니다. 
일곱 번 절을 하며 겸허한 마음으로 형과 해후하는 모습을 볼 수 있습니다. 

33:3.He himself went on ahead and bowed down to the ground seven times as he approached his brother.
4.But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms (around) his neck and kissed him. 
  And they wept.
10. "If I have found favor in your eyes, accept this gift from me. 
  For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, (now that) you have received me favorably.

라반을 피해 도주하고 하나님과 밤새 씨름하고 형 에서와의 대면을 앞두고 극도로 긴장했던 야곱은
이제 문제들이 해결되자 쉬고 싶은 마음이 들었던 것 같습니다. 
그는 서원을 기억하고 지켜 벧엘로 가 하나님께 감사의 단을 쌓아야 했지만 숙곳에 머물게 됩니다. 

17.Jacob, however, went to Succoth, where he built a place for himself and made shelters for his livestock. 
 That is why the place is called Succoth.
20.There he set up an altar and called it El Elohe Israel.  
 
* El Elohe Israel: 하나님, 곧 이스라엘의 하나님. 

세겜 땅에 머문 지 10년이 되던 해 딸 디나가 세겜 성 추장의 아들에게 욕을 당하는 사건이 일어납니다. 
세겜은 디나를 연모하여 아버지를 통해 화친을 제의해 왔지만 분개한 야곱의 아들들은 
화친하는 척 할례를 요구하고 사흘 째 세겜 성을 쳐들어가 잔인하게 유린합니다. 

34:7.Now Jacob's sons had come in from the fields as soon as they heard what had happened. 
 They were filled with grief and fury, because Shechem had done a disgraceful thing in Israel 
 by lying with Jacob's daughter -- a thing that should not be done.
8.But Hamor said to them, "My son Shechem has his heart set on your daughter. 
 Please give her to him as his wife.

13.Because their sister Dinah had been defiled, Jacob's sons replied deceitfully 
 as they spoke to Shechem and his father Hamor.

15."We will give our consent to you on one condition only: 
  that you become like us by circumcising all your males.
16.Then we will give you our daughters and take your daughters for ourselves. 
  We'll settle among you and become one people with you.
17.But if you will not agree to be circumcised, we'll take our sister and go."

19.The young man, who was the most honored of all his father's household, 
 lost no time (in doing) what they said, because he was delighted with Jacob's daughter.

25.Three days later, while all of them were still in pain, 
 two of Jacob's sons, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, took their swords 
 and attacked the unsuspecting city, killing every male.
28.They seized their flocks and herds and donkeys and everything else of theirs in the city 
 and out in the fields.


사태가 이렇듯 심각해지자 야곱은 더 이상 세겜 땅에 머무를 수 없게 됩니다.
하나님은 이 사건을 통해서 야곱이 서원을 기억하게 하시고 베델로 올라가게 하셨습니다. 

35:1.Then God said to Jacob, "Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, 
 who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau."

야곱은 큰 환난 앞에서 비로소 옷깃을 여미고 하나님을 경외하는 자세를 가졌습니다. 
가족들이 우상들을 버리고 정결케 하도록 하였습니다. 
2.So Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, 
 "Get rid of the foreign gods you have with you, and purify yourselves and change your clothes.
3.Then come, let us go up to Bethel, where I will build an altar to God, 
 who answered me in the day of my distress and who has been with me wherever I have gone."
4.So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods they had and the rings in their ears, 
 and Jacob buried them under the oak at Shechem.

무분별한 살육으로 인해 보복을 받을 수 있었지만 하나님께서 야곱의 가족을 보호해 주셨습니다. 
5.Then they set out, and the terror of God fell upon the towns all around them 
 so that no one pursued them.

6.Jacob and all the people with him came to Luz (that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.
7.There he built an altar, and he called the place El Bethel, 
 because it was there that God revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother.

야곱은 비로소 30여년 전 형을 피해 도망하던 외로운 나그네를 찾아와 만나 주시고 
그의 인생 여정에 함께 하신 하나님 앞에 나아와 감사의 단을 쌓았습니다.
