영어성경읽기 GENESIS 43~45. Judah 2
43장은 무대가 바뀌어, terrible famine으로 인해 야곱이 아들들을 다시 이집트로 보내려는 장면이 나옵니다. Benjamin을 데려가야 하는데 극구 거부하는 아버지에게 Judah는 베냐민의 안전을 personally guarantee 했습니다. "If I don't bring him back to you, then let me bear the blame forever." * bear: (의미.책임을) 떠맡다 드디어 야곱은 막내 베냐민 마저 잃을 지도 모를 상황을 받아들일 수밖에 없었습니다. "If it can't be avoided, then... May God Almighty give you mercy as you go before the man, that he might release Simeon and return Benjamin. And if I must bear the anguish of their deaths, then so be it. 그러나, 설마 설마 했던 일이 벌어졌습니다. 요셉이 계획적으로 베냐민이 도둑질을 한 혐의로 종으로 붙들어두겠다고 나선 것이었습니다. 형제들은 모두 함께 종이 되겠다며, 베냐민을 혼자 내버려두지 않습니다. 16 And Judah said, "Oh, my lord, what can we say to you? How can we plead? How can we prove our innocence? God is punishing us for our sins. My lord, we have all returned to be your slaves--we and our brother who had your cup in his sack." 그러나 요셉은 끝까지 베냐민만 종 삼겠다고 버팁니다. 17 "No," Joseph said. "Only the man who stole the cup will be my slave. The rest of you may go home to your father." 이 때, 유다가 나섭니다. 그들 가족에게, 특히 노년의 아버지에게 베냐민이 어떤 존재인지 함께 데려가지 못할 경우 얼마나 큰 비극인지 모두 털어놓습니다. 27 ...my father said to us, `You know that my wife had two sons, 28 and that one of them went away and never returned--doubtless torn to pieces by some wild animal... 29 If you take away his brother from me, too, and any harm comes to him, you would bring my gray head down to the grave in deep sorrow.' 더 나아가 베냐민을 늙으신 아버지께 꼭 돌려보내야 하니, 자신이 대신 노예로 남게 해 달라고 간청했습니다. 30 "And now, my lord, I cannot go back to my father without the boy. Our father's life is bound up in the boy's life. 31 When he sees that the boy is not with us, our father will die. We will be responsible for bringing his gray head down to the grave in sorrow. 32 My lord, I made a pledge to my father that I would take care of the boy. I told him, `If I don't bring him back to you, I will bear the blame forever.' 33 Please, my lord, let me stay here as a slave instead of the boy, and let the boy return with his brothers. 34 For how can I return to my father if the boy is not with me? I cannot bear to see what this would do to him." 지난 날의 죄를 의식하고 괴로워하는 형제들, 그리고 아버지의 편애를 받는 베냐민을 홀로 버려두지 않는 변화된 모습, 특히 아버지의 마음을 깊이 이해하고, 자신을 내어주며 막내를 구하려는 유다의 간청에 요셉은 그만 통곡하며 자신의 모습을 드러내고, 결국 가정이 회복되게 됩니다. 45장 1 Joseph could stand it no longer. "Out, all of you!" he cried out to his attendants. He wanted to be alone with his brothers when he told them who he was. 2 Then he broke down and wept aloud. His sobs could be heard throughout the palace, and the news was quickly carried to Pharaoh's palace. 3 "I am Joseph!"
