GENESIS Chapter 28 (Jacob II )

 벧엘 언약

에서의 원한을 산 야곱의 신변을 염려하여 리브가와 이삭은 야곱을 밧단 아람으로 보냅니다. 
야곱을 향하신 하나님의 뜻을 영접한 이삭은 이때 정식으로 야곱을 축복해 줍니다. 
"Do not marry a Canaanite woman. Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother's father Bethuel. 
Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother's brother.
May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples.
May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land 
where you now live as an alien, the land God gave to Abraham."

야곱은 '브엘세바 --> 하란' 여정 중에 루스라는 성에서 유숙하게 됩니다. 
편안한 집과 부모님 품을 떠나 낯선 땅으로 떠나는 나그네길에 그는 돌 베개를 하고 곤한 몸을 뉘었습니다. 
그런데 그때 여호와 하나님께서 꿈을 통해 찾아오서 언약을 주십니다. 
"There above it stood the LORD, and he said: 
"I am the LORD, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. 
I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.
Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, 
to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.
I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. 
I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."
* 도치 (The LORD stood there above it, 사닥다리가 닿은 하늘 위, 그 곳에...)

이 때 야곱은 그곳에 여호와께서 계심을 깨달았다고 고백하였습니다. 
"Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was not aware of it."
"How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven."

그리고 베개했던 돌을 가져다가 기둥으로 세우고 기름을 붓고 그곳을 벧엘이라 불렀습니다. 
그리고 서원기도 하였습니다. 
"If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking 
and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father's house, 
then the LORD will be my God and this stone that I have set up as a pillar will be God's house, 
and of all that you give me I will give you a tenth." 

야곱을 향하신 하나님의 비전과, 자기 신변을 염려하여 하나님께 구하는 야곱의 서원이 참 많은 차이가 있습니다. 
그러나 우리의 하나님은 끝까지 신실하게 그의 인생에 함께 하셔서 하나님의 약속을 이루어 내십니다.
