 새해 인사가 많이 늦었네요. 바쁘다는 핑계로 늦게 인사드려서 죄송합니다. 저희 가정은 하나님의 은혜로 Charleston, South Carolina 에서 잘 지내고 있습니다. 아래는 UBF members' meeting 에 보낸 Annual chapter report 입니다. 이 글로 인사와 보고를 대신 하고자 합니다. 저희 가정은 작년 12월 4일부터 가정교회 예배를 따로 드리게 되었습니다. 현재는 6명 (저와 레베카 선교사, 모니카 할머님, 그리고 세 딸, 모니카, 사라, 안나) 이렇게 저희 가정뿐이지만 12명의 제자를 세우실 비젼을 보면서 현재 주어진 곳에서 기도의 단을 쌓고 하나님 앞에서 예배 드리고자 투쟁하고 있습니다. 올 여름이후에는 새로운 캠퍼스로 인도하실 하나님을 믿고 (저의 1년 계약 교수 잡이 만료됩니다) 기도하고 있습니다. 안암골 목자님들의 기도 지원 부탁드립니다. 저희 새해 요절은 히브리서 11:6절과 빌립보서 4:6,7 절 말씀입니다. 저희 가정이 상황에 구애받지 않고 믿음과 기도로 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 한 해가 되기를 기도합니다. 새해에는 더욱 더 하나님의 축복을 잘 받고 감당하시기를 기도합니다! 주안에서, 양마가 드림. Dear Co-workers in Christ, I would like to briefly report Charleston (South Carolina) chapter in 2011 and 2012. First, God's calling to Charleston. By God's grace we came to Charleston, SC on August 11, 2011 as I received a visiting professor position at the College of Charleston. It was God's grace that I was offered this position, for I did not complete my Ph.D. degree (Business: Operations Management) and did not go through a formal interview process. We came here not knowing what to do simply trusting in God's guidance. We accepted this job offer as God's sign to our earnest prayer. We prayed to receive a wilderness training in Charleston since we came to know there is no single UBF family to cowork with. Second, first semester in Charleston (August 2011- November 27, 2011). From the beginning, we set the clear direction with Deuteronomy 6:5, 8:2,3: Love your God; Remember God and live on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. We decided to learn American churches (FYI: Charleston is known as a holy city since it has been built many beautiful churches during early 1800s. Puritans came to Charleston to seek a religious freedom and built magnificent churches to worship God based on their denominations). First four months we have attended many American churches and especially Baptist church for three months. It was a memorable experience for our family since we never attended churches beyond UBF. I have observed God is working in these churches; however, I also saw great needs of evangelization in young people (e.g., college students) since most attendents are elders and people in old ages. Every Saturday we maintained our group bible study among myself and my wife, Rebekah starting from Mark's Gospel followed by testimony sharing. I have taught four sections of Production and Operations Management at the College of Charleston from Monday to Friday. For each class I had to depend on God, overcoming language and cultural barriers. After teaching three or four classes each day, I was knocked down; but God's words revived me next morning. This was the first semester of our life in Charleston. Third, new year in Chaleston: Independent worship service (December 4, 2012- current). During December winter break God gave me a desire to have an independent worship service. After four month's experience in Baptist church in Charleston, I realized it's time for us to have our own worship service as our prayer for the College of Charleston and the city of Charleston. From December 4, 2011 we started our own worship service with my family members (Mark & Rebekah Yang, Monica Cho--my grandmother, three daughters--Monica (5), Sarah (3) and Anna (10 months)). We follow Chicago UBF passages one week behind. Each week God revealed his words powerfully to me and our family. During worship service, we sense the presence of God though we are small in number and humble in quality. We earnestly pray for College of Charleston, city of Charleston, and the world mission. Since last month, my wife Rebekah and I planted the seed of prayer for the College of Charleston. Rebekah started to visit campus to invite students to bible study and found two willing students' name (Raven and Caroline). She plans to keep visiting campus and engage in 1:1 bible studies. This is our prayer that we find CofC students who are willing to listen to the gospel. Fourth, our direction and prayer in 2012. We pray for God's guidance for the next step of our life. I still need to complete my doctoral dissertation and find a tenure-track faculty position to serve American college students. Above all, we want to please God by our faith and prayer. So we hold on to the following key verses in 2012: Hebrews 11:6 "Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." and Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Regardless of our situation, God wants us to fully trust God. Our true independence comes from our total dependence on God. May God grant us the victory that comes from faith and we may be able to serve the Lord this year with the full assurance in the power of the gospel. 선교사님 가정의 믿음의 투쟁을 보며 많은 은혜를 받았습니다. 하나님께서 귀하게 미국 캠퍼스 가운데 목자의 가정으로 사용하실 것을 믿습니다. 예비하신 캠퍼스로 인도해주시길 기도하겠습니다. 아이들이 정말 사랑스럽네요. 목자님과 사모님, 할머님의 모습도 뵙고 싶습니다. |
