We thank God for His amazing works and abundant blessings upon our ministry throughout the last year. Attached is the Alberta UBF annual report for the year 2006. We always thank you for your love and prayer support. Please continue to pray for our pioneering ministry. Thank you. In Christ, Noah, Grace, David & Deborah Chang from Alberta UBF --------------------------------------------- God’s Work in Alberta UBF in 2006 Key Verse: John 21:17 “The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”” The Year 2006 is now over. Looking back on the last year, we become overwhelmed by God’s wonderful grace and His abundant blessings upon Alberta UBF. Through this report, we would like to share God’s powerful and miraculous works upon Alberta UBF. In the beginning of the year 2006, we chose John 21:17 as an annual key verse for our ministry. We believed that what God wanted us to do most is to feed His sheep, so our resolution was to feed hungry sheep in the University of Alberta. As a humble house church, our strategy was to meet students and have 1 to 1 Bible study with them on campus. When we went out fishing to the campus, our 4 family members usually went fishing two by two (e.g. M. Grace and M. David Chang, M. Noah and M. Deborah Chang or M. David and M. Deborah Chang). The harvest was certainly plentiful. Many students we met seemed to be very kind and hardworking students. They were ‘good’ students, but it was not easy to open their hearts to the Bible study and convince them they need God’s salvation. Moreover, at that time, we were living in a small apartment on 26th floor and an access card was required in order to get into the main lobby on the 1st floor. Thus, it was difficult to invite students for Sunday worship service or testimony sharing. We started praying to God so that God would provide us with a house which we would call, “El Bethel.” Amazingly, He provided us a wonderful house that has six rooms. At the end of May, we moved in. We praised God and decided to dedicate this house to God and always open it to many sheep and guests. We decorated the basement and made it a worship service room, since it is a wide-open and quiet space. We put many chairs, praying that God would send many sheep to us and pack the room with thirsty sheep. Throughout the year, many coworkers visited us and supported our house church with prayer and encouragement. S. Dan Reinhart from Toledo and S. Jason Northey from Montreal visited us and prayed for our pioneering work of University of Alberta. During the summer, 15 precious coworkers from Waterloo UBF came all the way from the east to encourage us and have fellowship with us. They prayed for our ministry and even went fishing with us while visiting U of A campus. We were deeply moved by their love in Christ. Pray that God may continue to use our humble house church and grant us to welcome and serve much more guests, sheep and coworkers this year as well. On September 2nd, M. David And M. Noah had a chance to attend S. Joshua & S. Dana Brinkerhoff’s wedding in Ottawa and Missionary conference in Toronto after the wedding. The wedding was beautiful. It was a beautiful work of God. And, through Dr. John Jun’s message on ‘David and Goliath’ at the missionary conference, God helped us realize that our main weapon is not our own wisdom or strength but the name of the Lord Almighty. We thanked God that, through the conference, He equipped us with His powerful words and gave us new hope and strength to powerfully serve fall ministry. As the summer vacation was over and the new fall semester started, we repented of our lack of faith and tried all the more to establish one to one. On September, M. David started one to one with a student named Joel Short, 3rd year, philosophy major. He was a believer who seemed to have much knowledge about the Bible and Christianity, but he did not seem to have personal faith in Jesus yet. M. David prayed for him and tried to help him get to know God more personally through Genesis Bible study, but somehow he lost the desire to study the Bible with M. David. We continue to pray for him that he would study the Bible again and establish personal faith in Jesus Christ. M. David is also praying for Fred Hu, 2nd year, Science major, to start one to one with him. He attended our Christmas worship service and liked it very much. M. Grace has been praying for Adrianne, 20-year-old student from the States. She had an interest in Korean language study, so M. Grace invited her to our house and started teaching Korean and gave her Korean/English Bible. She loves Korean/English Bible and is eager to study the Bible both in Korean and English. Pray that she may meet Jesus through consistent one to one. M. Grace is also praying for Jennifer who has studied the Bible with her for several months. Pray that her health may be fully recovered so that she may resume Bible study with M. Grace. M. Deborah is praying for Katarina, Aimee and Seul-Gi. Pray that God may use M. Deborah as a spiritual mentor who could have spiritual influence on her friends at school. I (M. Noah) am praying for Jaesun (one of our relatives), Mr. Song (Jennifer’s husband) and Eric, 2nd year, Engineering major. Pray that God may bless our one to one ministry this year and make Alberta UBF a source of blessing and encouragement to many wandering students of U of A. Throughout the year, we studied John’s Gospel. God used M. Noah as a powerful messenger and M. David as a substitute. Through the study, God let us deeply think about Jesus who is the light, love and the life and who is also our true vine. Now, He is not with us physically, but we thank God that He is with us through the Holy Spirit. Pray that God may bless the rest of our John’s Gospel study this year. We specially thank Dr. Paul Hong and Toledo coworkers for supporting us with John’s Gospel study materials and messages. On Dec 24th, by God’s grace, we had our Christmas worship service. With God's words from Matthew chp.2 and praise, we worshiped the true King, Jesus with joy and peace. God sent four students; Adrianne, Paul (Adrianne’s friend from Australia), Fred & Eric to celebrate the birth of Jesus together with us. M. Noah delivered the Good News and M. David and M. Deborah played beautiful and joyful Christmas music. Thank God for bringing 4 students to our Christmas worship service and pray that God may bless each of them to meet Jesus Christ personally and accept Him as their King and the Saviour. In conclusion, we thank and praise God for the wonderful year 2006. God did everything for us to prepare and establish the environment for His work. This new year, what we have to do is keep building up on them. We expect to see greater works of God. Pray that God may grant us to serve many thirsty sheep from U of A and have good fellowship with other chapters (e.g. Calgary UBF). God may continue to bless and use Alberta UBF and raise up 1 Ancestor of faith and 20 SWS attendees by 2008. Also God may bless Canadian conference and international conference in Mexico and Africa as well. One Word: Feed Jesus’ Sheep |
